    We have had numerous reports of intermittent "bounces" or "outages" from various parts of the network. None of out monitoring systems are reporting issues, but we are investigating the issue further.

    UPDATE:
    We have isolated the issue to a single customer and are investigating further.

    UPDATE:
    After further investigation, we found a single customer with a compromised router that was flooding the network. Normally this would not be an issue as customer traffic is isolated, so this typically would only affect the one customer, but we found the customer's equipment had been mistakenly provisioned onto one of our management VLANs - so the flood of traffic from their infected router was affecting numerous parts of the network. We have fixed the customer, and are implementing some network changes to isolate this sort of issue, should it ever happen again.


    NOTE:
    We strongly recommend customers take time to keep their routers up to date. Most router manufacturers release software updates at least once per year, and newer equipment typically has an upgrade feature built in. We recommend checking the support website or contacting your router manufacturer if you are unsure how to check and update the device.

    We've been experiencing intermittent outages at our Red Peak POP. We are investigating.

    We have isolated the issue two one of two hardware devices, causing a flood of packets on a trunk port. We are monitoring the issue and working with both hardware vendors.

    We have disabled the "flow control" function on the backhaul and trunk port feeding this POP. We believe one of the two hardware vendors is causing a flood of "pause" frames.

    UPDATE:
    Ubiquiti has been able to replicate and confirmed a bug in their flow control implementation on the AirFiber products, which we use at this POP. We have disabled Flow Control on all AirFiber links, pending a new firmware release from Ubiquiti.

    Our BGP peering session with Zayo went down this morning at 3:45AM PST. Our BGP peering with Charter did not take over automatically. We bounced our session with Charter around 5:30AM and saw traffic begin to flow shortly after that.

This upgrade has been several months in the planning, and is part of a multi-phase upgrade plan in order to help bring better network stability for our customers and more capacity to our network. We look forward to adding additional gigabit and ten-gigabit connectivity in 2016 and this upgrade is necessary for that growth.

    Areas affected include Reno, North Valleys, Verdi, Sparks, McCarran/USA Parkway. 

    We anticipate less than 15 minutes of actual downtime.

    We have received notification from Charter that they will be performing network maintenance that will affect our upstream Internet circuit as well as two of our private transport fiber circuits from them. Below are the details they provided.

    We will manually fail over to our Zayo connection for primary internet and our backup wireless connections at least one hour before the maintenance window begins.

    We successfully failed over our circuits at 9:57PM. Charter maintenance was completed and our BGP session was back up at 1:55AM. We began sending/receiving traffic with Charter again at 4:02AM.

    We were alerted of a possible outage affecting one of our POPs in the Virginia City Highlands at approximately 3:15AM.

    UPDATE:
    After investigating, we found service performance was degraded at one of our smaller POPs in VCH, affecting approximately 25 customers. We found a backhaul had falsely detected radar and changed to a less than ideal backup channel.

    UPDATE:
    We were able to move the backhaul onto a better channel. All services hav been restored as of 3:45AM.

    We are aware of an outage affecting primarily customers in Silver Springs and Stagecoach.

    UPDATE:
    8:45 AM. Our techs are onsite and have determined that there is a power issue at one of our Virginia City POPs which is used as a backhaul to Silver Springs. We have alerted the facilities owners to the power issues and are currently running on generator power.

    UPDATE:
    5PM. We are still running on generator power. There was a slight hiccup while we made adjustments to the generator. Everything appears to be up and running.

    UPDATE:
    Saturday. We are running on generator power. We have been advised the repairs to grid power will not be fixed until Monday. We have techs checking the generator every 4-6 hours.

    UPDATE:
    Sunday. We had to take the generator offline briefly to put oil in it. All services should be back up.

    UPDATE:
    Monday. We are still running on generator, but have added batteries to our power setup which should allow us to run more than 24 hours before a gas topoff.


Zayo Circuit Bounce (Resolved)

    Our primary Zayo internet circuit bounced at 12:09PM PST. We failed over to our Charter circuit and show everything back up as of 12:17PM PST.

    We are investigating what caused the Zayo circuit to bounce and will post more details once we have them.

    2/3/2016 - We had a brief 15 minute outage today that we believe is related. We experienced route flapping today on our edge router that connects to Charter. We attempted to shut down this peering session for troubleshooting purposes, but found that our secondary connection with Zayo had placed our network in a "route dampened" state. We are troubleshooting further and working with Zayo to make configuration changes on both their end and ours to help mitigate this problem in the future.

    We will be performing network maintenance on Saturday, August 8th at all POPs throughout Dayton, Virginia City, Stagecoach, and Silver Springs. Customers may experience intermittent interruption in service throughout the evening and night. These interruptions should last no longer than 2-3 minutes at a time.

    This maintenance is necessary in order to prepare for further network and fiber upgrades, as well as bring long-term stability to the network.

    We have been made aware of several power issues reported by NV Energy that are affecting our Peavine POP. Our batteries went offline just before 10AM this morning. We have techs enroute with generators to bring the POP back online while we wait for NV Energy to restore power.

    Notified Garry, he confirmed incoming feed at Oleson's was down. Showed up at Chuck Oleson's service location, rebooted MicroTiK, service restored (on site contractor stated they had outage updstairs where out equipment is located.
